Academic Interest:

Dr. Vasquez-Iscan is the current Unit Coordinator of the Health Education Unit. She is also an affiliated faculty at the CUNY School of Public Health and a board member of the CUNY Academy. Her research interests entail analyzing the intersection of HIV, gender-based violence and health inequities. She conducts online research to identify coping responses to stress among vulnerable and at-risk populations. She also works on the development of cultural sensitivity curricula for health professionals; capacity building for local and international disease prevention efforts; and utilizes community based participatory research for health promotion and community empowerment. Dr. Vasquez-Iscan has worked as a program planner for the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and has extensive work experience in community organizing as well as health promotion in multicultural settings. She was a Fulbright Fellow in Brazil in 2003 and an ELEVATE Fellow in 2016 from the University of Pennsylvania Center for Minority Serving Institutions. Dr. Vasquez-Iscan is currently a member of the HIV Advisory Body (HAB) and Co-Chair of the Social Determinants Committee for the New York State Department of Health AIDS Institute. She enjoys teaching diverse student populations due to the wealth of life experiences that they bring to the classroom.
