PLEASE REVIEW THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION CAREFULLY SO THAT YOU CAN PLAN FOR YOUR SPECIAL DAY! DATE AND LOCATION: The 46th Commencement Ceremony will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at The United Palace, located on 4140 Broadway, New York, NY 10033 in Washington Heights. STUDENT ARRIVAL TIME: Students are to report for the ceremony no later than 1:00 PM. The ceremony will begin at 3:00 PM sharp. GUEST ARRIVAL TIME: Doors open for guests at 1:30 PM. It is the policy of the United Palace that all guests must walk through the facility’s metal detectors. As such, please make sure that your guests arrive on time. NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS: The Commencement Ceremony is for September 2016, February 2017 and June 2017 graduates. There are over 1,200 eligible graduates in the Class of 2017. OBTAINING CAP AND GOWN: All graduating students who are participating in the ceremony must be robed (cap, gown, tassel and hood). Students without robes will not be allowed to march. There will not be robes available onsite. Comfortable shoes are recommended. Information about the dates and times to purchase the cap and gown will be posted in early May. The cost of the cap and gown is around $50. OBTAINING TICKETS: Graduates will not need a ticket to participate in the ceremony. However, their guests will. Each graduate will receive three (3) tickets. If you want additional tickets, network with your fellow graduates to see if they have tickets that they are not using. Due to the size of the graduating class (over 1,200 students), there will not be a Waiting List for additional tickets. TICKETS REQUIREMENT: Admission to the commencement ceremony is by ticket only. Each adult and each child—two years and older—must have a ticket to occupy a seat. No tickets will be available at the theater. Each ticket admits one person only. Guests MUST bring their tickets to be permitted into the theater. No guest will be allowed inside the theater without tickets. Tickets are not transferable. Please safeguard your tickets; they are the only way your guests will be allowed into the graduation exercises. DISABLED STUDENT AND GUEST ACCOMMODATIONS: If you or your guests require wheelchair access assistance or an interpreter for the hearing impaired, please contact the Accessibility Resource Center (ARC) at (718) 518-4454 to arrange for seating or services. You must request these accommodations by Thursday, May 26th. SENIOR PICTURES: The photographer will be on campus three (3) days out of every week between now and the week of May 22, 2017. The first appointment is at 10:00am and the last appointment is at 5:40pm. Please visit the Office of Student Activities (C-371) or call (718) 518-6561 to schedule an appointment. All photo sessions will take place in room A-126C (Photo Studio). GRADUATION RINGS: Students considering purchasing a graduation ring can visit the Jostens website at the following website: http://college.jostens.com/jostens/index.jsp?affiliateId=1055401. A page should come up with a picture of class rings, graduation announcements and diploma frames. Click the class ring so that you could take a look at the available selection. PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER: On the day of the graduation, all graduating students will march across the stage. A professional photographer will take an individual picture of each student with President Gómez. Representatives from Island Photography (www.islandphoto.com) will photograph the ceremony. You will receive more information (an information card) about purchasing your photograph on the day of the ceremony. DIPLOMAS: Diplomas will not be distributed during commencement. The Registrar’s Office will mail a notification to each graduate when diplomas are ready for pick up. FOREIGN GUESTS AT GRADUATION: Hostos Community College understands that many of you want to share your special day with your loved ones who do not live in the United States. However, Hostos cannot arrange for entrance to the United States for any guest from another country. You may contact the Office of Student Activities (C-371) to get a letter stating that you are a candidate for graduation and that you will be attending the commencement ceremony. You will be required to provide the U.S. Consulate an address for the city and country where your guest will be applying for a visitor's visa, your guest's name, address, passport number and relationship to you. Only the student graduating, with appropriate identification, may obtain this letter. PROOF OF GRADUATION FOR EMPLOYEES: If you need a letter to show your employer that you are graduating so that you can get the day off from work, please visit the Office of Student Activities (C-371) or contact the office at (718) 518-6561.
