Hostos Community College is proud to announce that fresh off its women’s basketball team winning back-to-back National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III championships in March, the Caimans also have earned national player and coach of the year honors for the second straight year.

Women’s head coach DeVernie Winston repeated as the 2019 Spalding® NJCAA Division III Women's Basketball Coach of the Year and Skydajah Patterson has earned the 2019 Spalding® NJCAA Division III Women's Basketball Player of the Year award. Patterson takes the place of fellow Caiman Kayla Wilson who won the honor last season.

Skydajah PattersonPatterson played an integral role in the Caimans winning back-to-back NJCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championships. In the championship game, Patterson posted 15 points, three assists, and two steals to go on to win tournament MVP honors. Hostos finished the season with a 28-5 record. Patterson led the Caimans in points per game for the season. The sophomore guard posted double-digit scoring performances in 21 of the Caimans' 32 games this season. Patterson's season-high scoring mark came in January, when she posted a 34-point performance in a dominating Hostos win.

DeVernie WinstonCoach Winston completed his fourth season as the Caimans' head coach and led the team to back-to-back NJCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship titles. A strong presence all season, Hostos spent 10 consecutive weeks at No. 2 in the NJCAA DIII Women's Basketball rankings. In the final week of the regular season, the Caimans took down the No. 1 team to claim the top spot in the final poll.  Winston coached the Caimans to a 28-5 record.
