Thursday, November 7, 2013 (Bronx, NY) - Matt Bethancourt, a professor in the Media Design Program who previously taught courses in Digital Music at Eugenio María de Hostos Community College, has been invited to participate in the 2014 Studio for Electro-Instrumental Music (STEIM) Orientation Session in Amsterdam.
STEIM is an independent electronic music center dedicated to live performance. Its artistic and technical departments support an international community of performers, musicians, and visual artists in the development of unique instruments for their work.
Bethancourt, who began teaching digital music at Hostos as an adjunct in 2010, is excited about this opportunity to network with other leaders in his field and bring back new and exciting ideas to the College.
He says, “I look forward to getting feedback on my work from some of the brightest minds in the industry at a place that has been on the cutting edge of the conversation for decades. It's all very exciting."
During the three-day summit scheduled for January 13 to 15, 2014, Bethancourt will participate in orientation sessions that offer valuable learning and networking opportunities for artists from all over the world.
Other sessions will feature discussions and technology demonstrations by STEIM staff and artists in the STEIM network, through which Bethancourt will gain insight into the history and context of work at STEIM and meet other musicians and artists in the fields of live electronic music and sound art.
Bethancourt is the first professor from Hostos to attend one of these sessions, which are held bi-annually.
