Sandra Robert at the NCLS

Hostos student Sandra Robert and student leadership coordinator Jason Libfeld traveled to Colorado last month to attend the National Character and Leadership Symposium (NCLS) at the United States Air Force Academy.

Held Feb. 20-21, the two-day symposium brought together distinguished scholars, military leaders, executives, and many others to participate in discussions about the importance of sound moral character and effective leadership.

Throughout their visit, Robert and Libfeld were immersed in a series of events, activities and panels focused on valuing human conditions, cultures and societies—this year’s theme. Robert also stayed in barracks and was paired with a cadet with whom she explored the base and attended workshops.

“NCLS is an opportunity for students from Hostos to visit with, learn from and experience how the Air Force Academy, military institutions, and other colleges and universities across the country define their leadership models and address challenges that may face leaders in training,” explained Libfeld.

The NCLS began in 1993 and is held every February, attracting more than 6,000 attendees annually. Next year’s theme will be Warrior Ethos.
