On March 20, the Career Services Office at Hostos held a large “Hire a Caiman” job fair in the gymnasium. The large employment event attracted 58 employers from around New York City and Pennsylvania, and more than 200 Hostos students and alumni took advantage of the opportunity to test the job market.

As a result of the relationships cultivated by Career Services with area employers, this year’s first “Hire a Caiman” helped several Hostos students and alumni find employment.

Based on student feedback to the Hostos Career Services Office, nearly 50 students landed job interviews, and more than a dozen found employment. Employers that interviewed and/or hired students included the Center for Human Development and Family Services, Inc., Quality Services for the Autism Community (QSAC), Banana Republic, Flynn O’Hara, and other companies.

Idelsa Mendez, Employment Coordinator, also worked with Green Tree Textiles, a company that creates awareness on recycling textiles. As it has done in the past, Green Tree Textiles made a donation of clothing, and 53 students received free interview attire to attend the job fair. Overall, Green Tree Textiles donated 88 business jackets, 9 suits and 16 pair of pants.
