Wheelchair basketball practice
Recent Hostos graduate Destini Mitchell-Murray (center, in white), who helped make CUNY’s first wheelchair basketball team a reality, is joined by Christopher Rosa, CUNY Vice Chancellor for Student Inclusion Initiatives, and the Hostos women’s basketball team at CUNY’s first wheelchair basketball practice at Hostos on Aug. 24.
On Aug. 24, Hostos helped The City University of New York make history when the College hosted the University’s first organized wheelchair basketball practice.

Joining several enthusiastic wheelchair athletes were recent Hostos graduate Destini Mitchell-Murray, who helped make the team a reality; head coach Ryan Martin, a National Wheelchair BasketbRyan Martin leads practiceall Association all-star; Zak Ivkovic, CUNYAC Executive Director; and Christopher Rosa, CUNY Vice Chancellor for Student Inclusion Initiatives.

The goal of the new team and CUNY’s overall inclusive and adaptive sports effort is to engage student-athletes with disabilities in four sports — basketball, track and field, swimming and tennis — as a collegiate model for its University’s campuses to adopt.
