Hostos Community College is pleased to announce that Mohammad A. Sohel, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Chemistry in the Natural Sciences Department has been awarded a faculty fellowship at the Center for Functional Nanomaterials at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) in the Summer of 2014.

Participants are selected for the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Visiting Faculty Program on the basis of a competitive collaborative research proposal that has gone through a scientific merit review process. At the BLN’s Center for Functional Nanomaterials, Professor Sohel will study the correlation between quality of infiltration synthesis and temperature of block copolymers in the formation of metal oxides nanostructure which are used in the fabrication of microelectronic circuits, sensors, fuel cells and as catalysts.

This fellowship will allow Professor Sohel to build collaborative relationships with some of the most talented scientists in nanotechnology, and provide him with a unique opportunity to increase his research capabilities by using modern research facilities at BNL.

Professor Sohel, who has been teaching at Hostos for seven years, was also awarded a Department of Energy (DOE) Visiting Faculty fellowship last year in the Center for Nanoscale Materials at the Argonne National Laboratory in Chicago, where he investigated the surfaces modification of semiconductor nanoparticles for enhancement of solar to electric power conversion.
