Hostos has once again been recognized as a Top Ten Digital Community College in a national survey on colleges’ use of technology to improve services, engagement and collaboration.

The Center for Digital Education (CDE) announced the winners of its 2017-18 Digital Community College Survey April 25th, revealing Hostos placed 2nd overall in the nation among mid-size colleges. This is the eighth time that the College has finished in the Top 10, including when it ranked No. 1 in 2016.

Varun Sehgal, Chief Information Officer and Assistant Vice President of IT at Hostos, expressed his excitement and gratitude for the recognition on behalf of the College.

“What a wonderful way to add to our 50th Anniversary celebrations!” he said. “This continues to reflect the innovation and collaborative efforts across the campus — whether it be in advancing the infrastructure to improve access for our students anytime — anywhere, increasing the adoption of educational technology to facilitate pedagogy, expanding the availability of state of the art classrooms and technology platforms for student success or new and improved services in the library and beyond.”

The recognition, Sehgal said, is a testament to Hostos’ interdepartmental teamwork and unwavering commitment to fulfilling the College’s mission — attributes that will aid Hostos as it continues to adapt, change and evolve with the times.

“We are grateful to the Center for Digital Education and look forward to continuing to be a model for technology while also learning from our peer institutions on areas we can develop further,” Sehgal shared. “The pace at which technology continues to evolve is increasing rapidly and we must remain innovative while making sound choices to ensure we serve our students, faculty, staff and community the best we can.”

The Digital Community College’s Survey Awards honors community colleges utilizing technology to engage students, collaborate with other educational institutions and improve learning. All accredited U.S. community colleges are eligible to participate in the Digital Community Colleges Survey within three classifications based on enrollment size.
