Hostos Caimans Women's team player

The Hostos Caimans women’s basketball team is having a historic season, and on December 19 it reached the No. 1 spot on the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III poll. This is the first time in the College’s history that the team has hit the top spot in the country.

The Caimans (12-2 overall) are looking to build off of last year’s deep run into the NJCAA D-IIII National Tournament, after cruising to the first CUNYAC Championship since 2007.

Coach DeVernie Winston said he is proud of his team.

“Our team has done a phenomenal job taking care of business in the beginning of the season. As we look forward to the second half, we are working to continue our up-tempo offense and hard-nosed style of defense to propel us into the 2018 National Tournament. We are elated from the support we are getting from the campus community, and are working diligently to bring a national title home to Hostos Community College.”

The next home game is January 6 at 1:00 p.m. vs. Westchester Community College, so come out and cheer on the Caimans in The Swamp!
