Hostos helping puerto Rico with Hurricane

Hostos and the Bronx Coalition hosted the “Bienvenida and Resource Fair” to support hurricane evacuees on March 24, as hundreds of people were offered assistance with job searches, health care and social services.

Hostos President David Gómez welcomed Bronx Borough President Rubén Díaz Jr.; New York State Senator Gustavo Rivera; Assemblymember Marcos Crespo; more than 50 service agencies, and the leaders of The Bronx Coalition Government, Community, and Media Relations Director of Union Community Health Center and Chair of The BxCoSHME, Luz Correa; Suery Miranda-Alarcón and Victor Martínez from Diaspora X Puerto Rico, partner organizers of the fair.

Hostos staff, a music ensemble, and dozens of volunteers made the fair a huge event that helped bring some relief. The BxCOSHME will continue working towards supporting families displaced by the harsh aftermath of hurricane Maria. As a member of The Bronx Coalition Supporting Hurricane Maria Evacuees, Hostos will continue to stand with the community leaders that have come together to help.
