Students in AAS Degree Programs

Although specific requirements vary by degree programs, all CUNY AAS students must complete part of the Common Core. If an AAS student later transfers to an AA, AS, or Bachelor's degree program, that student will need to complete any part of the Common Core s/he has not yet completed. Note: Some AS and AAS programs may specify Common Core courses students must take to complete their degree in the regular number of credits.

AAS students must also meet the regulations of the New York State Department of Education, which requires that students must complete at least 20 Liberal Arts credits to earn an AAS degree. Colleges should ensure that all Liberal Arts courses listed for AAS programs are also approved as Common Core courses. Students are urged to consult with their campus advisors during registration to ensure that the Liberal Arts courses that they take are drawn from the list of approved Common Core courses.
