The mission of the Hostos Adult Learning Center (ALC) is to provide the academic skills, job training and support services needed for adults and young adults to achieve more productive lives for themselves and their families.  For men and women who have not completed high school and/or are in need of building their English language skills, instruction at the ALC seeks to offer students an opportunity to build a strong academic foundation and supplies them with the tools to strengthen their basic educational skills while participating in interesting, fun and relevant learning experiences. We invite you to join the thousands of others who have enjoyed the supportive atmosphere and academic excellence that have made the ALC such a special place to learn.

The College Readiness Seminar

A General Education Diploma (GED) is the first step in preparing our students to enter college. After our students have attained their GED, we realize that they must have the academic skills needed to be successful in college once admitted and be oriented to the college admission process and beyond.

Students who have attained their General Education Diploma (GED) through the Adult Learning Center (ALC) are highly encouraged to enroll in ALC’s College Readiness Seminar.  The College Readiness Seminar gives students the academic skills needed to take and pass the CUNY Assessment test for Writing/Reading and Math.  We offer individual and group academic advisement workshops and seminars on various topics such as financial aid, career exploration, study skills, and key college services.
