How do I get into the nursing program?
  • Complete the prerequisites then take the TEAS exam.
  • RN day cohort and LPN day cohort TEAS exam is given during the spring semester only.
  • RN evening cohort and LPN evening cohort TEAS exam is given during the fall semester only.
What are the prerequisites?
RN- grade/GPA criteria:
  • ENG110, BIO230/240/310, MAT 120, CHE 110 (B Minus or higher), and ENG111, PSY101/110, SOC101, HLT215 (C or higher), GPA of 3.00 or better, Students may repeat only one prerequisite course, Science courses more than five (5) years old are NOT accepted. (See college catalog).

How do I study for the TEAS exam?
  • Visit the ATI website to view study material options; Link- https://www.atitesting.com
  • The HCC Library has free resources to study from.  HALC offers free tutoring on the subjects tested in the ATI TEAS: English, Math, and Science.
Can I take the TEAS exam more than once?
  • No, the TEAS Test can only be taken once by each student seeking admission to a specific cohort.
  • At the time it is taken, the applicant must be an enrolled student in HCC.
  • If the student is not admitted to the desired cohort, the test may be repeated the next semester, but each student must realize this usually indicates a poor statistical chance of success.  An alternate career path should be explored.
How/ when do I apply to the TEAS exam?
  • You must take the TEAS Exam on the last semester of completing your pre-requirements. You must contact Nursing department to apply for test.
  • The ATI TEAS Test can only be taken by students enrolled in HCC.
  • Provide an e-mail address to the Clinical Assistant and the C.O.
 When does the program start?
  • The LPN and RN Day program start in the fall (end of august) semester only
  • The LPN and RN evening program starts in the spring (January) semester only.
 How long is the program?
  • The LPN certificate program is one year after acceptance to the clinical phase.
  • The RN program is two years after acceptance to the clinical phase
 When do I apply to the program?
  • The LPN and RN Day application process takes place during the spring semester.
  • The LPN and RN evening application process takes place during the fall semester.
What is the difference between the LPN program and the RN program?
  • The LPN program is a certificate program, and the RN program is a degree program, the duties of an LPN and an RN are differentiated under the Nurse Practice Act.
What is the schedule/hours of each program?
  • The LPN day and RN Day program runs between the hours of 8 AM to 5 PM
  • The LPN evening and RN evening program runs from 5 PM to 8 PM with the options of clinical on Thursday and Friday 4 PM to 9 PM or Saturday 8 AM to 6 PM
  • ALL PROGRAMS ARE FULL TIME, STUDENTS MUST BE AVAILABLE 5 DAYS A WEEK.
If I’m a transfer student and have completed all the prerequisites at another school, can I transfer and start the clinical phase upon entrance?
  • No. Credits must be evaluated by credit evaluation. The ATI TEAS Test can only be taken by students enrolled in HCC.
 If I am credited for all the required courses from my prior school, What is the next step?
  • You are required to have a GPA at HOSTOS to apply to the program. Transfer students do not directly transfer into the clinical phase.
 Are there any additional clinical requirements?
  • Yes. Clinical requirements are different from college admission requirements. More information will be provided during mandatory nursing orientation for accepting cohorts.
 How much is tuition?
  • The cost of the program is based on the schools Tuition rates this depends on how many credits you are taking per semester.
