Behavioral Sciences  

Timeframe:  calendar year (spring and fall)  

Requirements:   

  • a minimum of two (2) Behavioral Sciences (BS) courses from at least two disciplines in BS  

  • min of 3.5 GPA in the BS courses   

Number of Awards:  three  

 

Social Sciences  

Political Science: Spring and Fall 2023 students who earned a grade of 90 or higher (A- or A) in a POL course and completed an exemplary course-related project or paper. 

Economics: Spring and Fall 2023 students who earned a grade of 90 or higher (A- or A) in an ECO course. 

History: Spring and Fall 2023 students who earned a grade of 90 or higher (A- or A) in at least two (2) HIS courses and completed an exemplary course-related project or paper in one (1) of them. 

 

Public Policy and Law  

Eligibility: Student currently enrolled in Hostos Community College who is majoring in one or more of the major programs of study of the Public Policy & Law Unit of the Behavioral & Social Sciences Department (Criminal Justice, Public Policy and Administration, Public Interest Paralegal). 

Primary Criteria: Strongly preferred, but not mandatory 

  • Majority of required program major courses taken at Hostos or accredited as approved by Hostos
  • Graduation within 4 years preferred 
  • Cumulative GPA for major courses of program of study (3.5 Gold, 3.2 Silver, 3.0 Bronze) 
  • Cumulative GPA for non-major courses (3.0 Gold, 2.7 Silver, 2.5 Bronze)  

Secondary Criteria: 

  • Completion of program of study and graduation in two academic years or less.
  • Student who has done outstanding community service and/or helping community members in need such as those currently or formerly justice involved, domestic violence victims, substance abusers and the like or recognized for the same by a community group or organization.
  • Student who has created solely or as part of a group effort outstanding work in one or more of Unit fields of study (for example: a research paper, PowerPoint presentation, video or audio project, funded grant proposal). 
  • Student who has overcome a major personal challenge, such as, formerly justice involved, domestic violence victim, substance abuse, extreme poverty or any similar physical, psychological, emotional, linguistic or cultural challenge in order to graduate. 

Miscellaneous Criteria 

  • Accepted for and planning to continue to BA or other higher degree 
  • Accepted/hired and planning to start employment related to his/her major 
  • Received or receiving at graduation other recognition or award
