Teacher Education Program

The Teacher Education Program at Hostos Community College prepares students with the background, knowledge, and skills necessary for employment in schools,  child care centers, and other agencies serving infants and young children. The curriculum combines classroom instruction with workshops, seminars, and field experiences, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge through hands-on practice with instructional methods and materials, as well as through observation and participation in early childhood programs. The program also prepares students to work in bilingual settings and provides a strong foundation for advanced study in areas such as elementary education and special education.Teacher Education

Students planning to continue their education may pursue an Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree with electives in teacher education. For students who wish to enter the workforce immediately, an Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree is available. Both degree programs prepare graduates for employment in early childhood education settings.

The program employs diverse learning methods, including lecture-discussion and field experience. Additionally, a Parent Education course is offered as an elective to all students who meet the prerequisites.
