Areas of Interest:

Michael Cisco completed his B.A. at Sarah Lawrence College (1992), his M.A. from the State University of New York at Buffalo (1994), and both his MPhil. (2002) and PhD. in English (2004) from New York University.  He began teaching at Hostos in 2008.  In addition to the core English courses, Prof. Cisco teaches Literature of the Macabre and the Supernatural, a course he co-developed with Prof. Bernardinii He is interested in the relationship between literature and philosophy, the genealogy of ideas, in antebellum American literature – particularly Hawthorne, Poe, and Melville, religion and the supernatural, obscure or insane fantasists, and in confusion.  He has been published in Lovecraft Studies and on TheModernWord.com.

Prof. Cisco is also the author of several novels:  The Divinity Student, The Golem, The Traitor, and The Tyrant;  in addition to Secret Hours, a collection of his short fiction.  His stories have also appeared in Leviathan III and IV, Album Zutique, The Thackery T. Lambshead Pocket Guide to Eccentric and Discredited Diseases, and Lovecraft Unbound;  more will appear in upcoming anthologies Last Drink Bird Head, Black Wings, and Cinnabar’s Gnosis:  A Tribute to Gustav Meyrink.
