The Float Pool Program welcomes individuals with a passion to assist in the patient care field. We train in various specialties and provide training in EHR. Recent grads and entry level candidates are welcomed and will receive on the job training. We provide fully trained, employees who can provide support to physician practice sites during staff shortages.

The Medical Practice Associate will be assigned to provide coverage for any of the faculty practice departments and locations as well as the main reception desk. Job duties include (but are not limited to):

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Greeting and interacting with patients in a courteous and professional manner
  • Accurately collecting, updating and verifying patient demographic and insurance information in patient’s chart
  • Collecting referrals (as needed) and ensuring accuracy of information on referral forms
  • Performing insurance eligibility and verification as needed
  • Check patients in for their appointments and make follow up appointments upon check out
  • Collection of copayments and posting of payments, daily reconciliation of the cash drawer
  • Collection and recording of Meaningful Use Data
  • Creating and sending Patient Portal invitations
  • Obtaining insurance pre-authorizations for treatments and diagnostic procedures and recording in the appropriate system
  • Interacting with other departments and facilities to help schedule follow up care, providing patient with appointment card and all necessary instructions to ensure a smooth follow up visit
  • Accurately scanning information (including but not limited to insurance card, referrals, registration forms outside records, etc.)
  • Coordinating all clerical aspects of patient flow during the practice session
  • Interacting with clinical support staff and providers to ensure a smooth an timely flow of patients through the office
  • Exercising skill in prioritizing assignments in order to complete work in a timely manner when there are changes in workload, assignments, and pressures of deadlines, competitive requirements and/or a heavy workload
  • Maintain a cooperative and professional relationship with physicians, nurses, office and clinical staff
  • Checking messages and following up with patients (including reminder phone calls) in a timely manner
  • Filing and pulling charts as needed
  • Facilitating physician and patient administrative needs
  • Ensures patient centered care by demonstrating behaviors that reflect a Culture of Service and will strive
  • Conforms to all applicable HIPAA, Billing compliance and safety guidelines
  • Completes other duties as assigned
EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS:
  • Minimum Experience: 1 year minimum experience in an office environment preferred. Knowledge of Epic or other electronic medical records system desired. Possess knowledge of modern medical office equipment, systems and procedures. 

Other Requirements: Ability to work flexible hours/days. Ability to work independently and takes initiative to improve overall office operations. Excellent communication/customer service skills in a high-pressure environment. Ability to adjust to different services and medical staff needs, process, and clinic flow. Knowledge of Spanish is a plus.
