Who Qualifies?

Students must

• be U.S. Citizens, Permanent Residents, Nationals, or Refugees;
• be enrolled in one of the Joint Dual (JD) Degree Engineering majors or if a coming directly from high school must demonstrate good academic standing by GPA, grades in science and math courses, and completion of high school or high school equivalency;
• be full time/part time student;
• have an overall GPA of 3.0 and a minimum College Math and Science GPA of 3.0 with no STEM grades below “B-” at time of application;
• have a recommendation letter showing candidate’s qualities such as academic performance, commitment, and STEM career motivation; and
• be a low-income student with demonstrated financial need as per the Financial Aid Office.

HEAT Scholars Benefits

Criteria for Retention of HEAT Scholars' Scholarships

To remain eligible each semester, HEAT Scholars must

• Maintain good academic standing with a minimum overall GPA of 3.0, and a minimum College Math and Science GPA of 3.0 with no STEM courses grades below “B-”. HEAT Scholars who fail to maintain the latter academic requirements (i.e., 3.0 GPA) will be placed on probation for one semester. The HEAT faculty mentoring team will closely monitor and help them to overcome probation. HEAT Scholars who fail to achieve the required HEAT standards at the end of the probation period will be dismissed from the program.
• Comply with HEAT eligibility criteria as described above.
