Professor Nelson Nuñez-Rodríguez, Ph.D.
Professor and Unit Coordinator, Physical Sciences Unit, Natural Sciences Department
Nelson Nuñez Rodríguez is Professor of Chemistry, Unit Coordinator at Natural Sciences Department, and former Director of Center for Teaching and Learning at Hostos Community College of the City University of New York. He currently serves as Fulbright Specialist on STEM Education and sub award Principal Investigator for a NIH IRACDA BETTR program. His scholarly interests focus on developing scientific skills in urban college students. He received a Bachelor Degree in Biology from Havana University, Cuba in 1992, a Ph.D. in Chemistry from National University of Cordoba, Argentina in 2001 and developed a four year-postdoctoral training at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York.
Associate Professor Kate Wolfe, Ph.D.
Behavioral Sciences Unit, Behavioral and Social Sciences Department
Dr. Wolfe is a social psychologist with research interests in quantitative reasoning among urban community college students, student perceptions of online learning, and urban college student attitudes toward sexual minorities. She was the Principal Investigator for the Hostos Online Learning Assessment research project. She was a member of PRIME (Project for Relevant and Improved Mathematics Education), a project funded by the Teagle Foundation. She was co-investigator a project that assessed quantitative reasoning among Hostos College students. Dr. Wolfe has been a Visiting Scholar at Teachers College, Columbia University as a fellow of the Metropolitan Colleges Institute for Teaching Improvement, a program that focused on the nature of a liberal education at urban colleges. She currently serves as a reviewer for the journal Numeracy.
