Program Initiatives

QUALITYstarsNY

The QUALITYstarsNY Standards represent the best practices and policies in early childhood care and education.  Developed by leading experts in the field of early childhood learning and development from across New York State and then validated by research.  QUALITYstarsNY Standards are used to assess and rate the quality of an early childhood program.

Programs participating in QUALITYstarsNY earn points toward their rating for meeting key quality indicators.  Hostos Children’s Center is proud to be nominated to participate in this program.

Parents and Children Together at Hostos (PACT)

PACT at Hostos is a federally funded, four-year, grant initiative that is helping to expand the emotional and mental health well-being of our students and parents. PACT at the Children’s Center includes support such as a mental-health consultant, and a Special Education Itinerant Teacher (SEIT), and is developing children’s physical, social, emotional, and mental health through mindful music and yoga education programming. PACT at Hostos will also include a part-time registered nurse.

Family Engagement

The Children’s Center is active in engaging parents and families as well as consistent in providing support to those who need the most.  We currently are partnered with Chances for Children, a community-based not-for-profit organization, which focuses on the social/emotional and developmental needs of children in our care.  CFC provides therapeutic services to families that are enrolled in the Children’s Center and have a child who needs a referral or behavioral assistance.

HCC also works with Cornell University Cooperative Extension to provide virtual workshops to parents on topics such as Nutrition, to help families live better and healthier lifestyles.
