Soldanela Rivera, Hostos’ Director of Presidential Strategic Initiatives, is credited as a community organizer in the new short documentary “After Maria,” which is making its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival this month.

Directed by award-winning filmmaker Nadia Hallgren and produced by Lauren Cioffi, the 36-minute documentary tells the story of three Puerto Rican women who were displaced by Hurricane Maria and have bonded with one another while living in a FEMA hotel in the Bronx. The relationship between the filmmakers and the women featured in the film was facilitated Rivera, who came to know both parties through her work advocating on behalf of those impacted by the storm and organizing relief efforts at and beyond the College.

“After Maria” will be shown under the No Short Cuts category, which is dedicated to female-focused short documentaries. The first showing will take place Sunday, April 28 at 2:30 p.m. at Regal Cinemas in Battery Park.
