Hostos Caimans logoDecember has been quite a month for Hostos basketball.  Jemal Smith kicked off the award parade by winning NJCAA Division III Player of the Week, after averaging 30.5 points per game (ppg), 13 assists per game (apg) and 3 steals over two games. Smith also won a CUNYAC Player of the Week award.

Smith was joined by Lady Caiman Destini Green, who also won a CUNYAC Player of the Week award. In a three-game span, she averaged 17.6 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 6 apg, and 5.3 steals—scoring a triple double against Queensborough and a double-double against Dutchess.

Not to be outdone, Cashmir Fulcher and Jonathan Loria also took home CUNYAC Rookie of the Week honors. Against Division II opponent Erie CC, Cashmir put up 20 points and pulled down 5 rebounds, while Loria scored 27 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, along with 5 steals.

In December, the women’s squad went 4-0 and the men went 3-1. Currently the women’s team is riding an eight-game win street and holds a 12-3 overall record (5-0 conference), while the men’s squad is 7-4 overall (3-2 conference).
