Dean Ana García Reyes holds the three proclamations she received.
Congratulations to Hostos Dean of Community Relations Ana García Reyes, who was honored with three proclamations from the New York State (NYS) Senate, the Yonkers Office of the City Council and the Office of the Mayor at the 18th Annual Gala of the Dominican Cultural Association of Yonkers (DCAY) on Friday, June 9.

Dean García Reyes served as the keynote speaker and was surprised with the multiple well-deserved accolades in light of her four decades of public service in higher learning, organizing cultural events and academic exchanges, and highlighting the scholarly achievements of Dominicans and Latinos through seminars and conferences, and teacher preparation workshops.

One of the many initiatives spearheaded by García Reyes is the Study Abroad and Professional Development program that provides an exchange opportunity for NYC teachers in the Dominican Republic. The initiative is a culturally enriching program that explores the academic needs of English Language Learners (ELL) and provides teachers with the necessary tools for students to succeed in the classroom.

During her speech at the DCAY gala, she noted that “Education is the equalizer that bestows opportunities for all. I will always support those wishing to realize their higher education dreams.”

Mayor of Yonkers Mike Spano, NYS Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, and NYS Senate Member Shelley B. Mayer were some of the elected officials that recognized Dean García Reyes’ accomplishments and commitment to her community.

We are proud of you, Dean García Reyes, and look forward to celebrating your continued success!
