Dominican Heritage Month Honorees with Dean Garcia and President Gomez

Community leaders, administrators, and Hostos staff and students convened to celebrate the achievements of this year’s honorees:  Hon. Judge Llinet Rosado; Hon. Judge Bianka Perez; NY1 Noticias Breaking News reporter Yeila Lluberes; CUNY Citizenship Now! Community Liaison Carlos Sierra; and Ramona Torres, Folkloric Dance Group Director.

Hostos President David Gómez was in attendance, as was NYS Senator Luis Sepulveda. Bronx Judges Hon. Wilma Guzman, Hon. Julio Rodríguez, Hon. Kim Wilson, and Hon. Enedina Sanchéz were on hand to pay tribute to their colleagues on the bench. The Hostos Student Government Association was represented by SGA President Kelvin Pineda and SGA Senators Lusleidy Perez and Nicole Rodriguez.

Associate Dean García Reyes, the event coordinator, said: “CUNY and Hostos has a highly significant number of Dominican students who are pursuing different career fields. The Bronx also has the highest concentration of Dominican residents in the city. Therefore it is appropriate for us to celebrate the community’s Dominican heritage with pride.”

The evening was made possible by the sponsorship of the Office of the Associate Dean for Community Relations, Division of Institutional Advancement; The Hostos Student Government Association; and The Dominican Studies Association.
