Students, faculty and staff celebrated the start to a new semester at Friday’s Welcome BBQ.
We’re back! Hostos Community College wrapped our Welcome Days kickoff to the Fall 2024 semester with a lively, fun-filled Welcome BBQ. Held Friday, August 30, in neighboring Evelina Antonetty Playground, the festivities offered students, faculty, staff and friends of the College an opportunity to enjoy delicious food, great company, fun music and activities, plus learn more about one another — and the College!
President Daisy Cocco De Filippis, SGA President Dainma Martinez, and Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson offered warm greetings.
President Daisy Cocco De Filippis extended a warm welcome to our College community alongside her “co-president” Dainma Martínez, SGA President, who also shared words of welcome. Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson joined the festivities to impart additional greetings, wisdom and inspiration. A SUNY and CUNY graduate herself, she reminded our students that there is nothing greater that we can invest in than an education and advised them to keep aiming high.
Hostos’ SGA was among the numerous campus organizations and offices meeting and greeting students.
Offices and organizations like the Counseling Center, Accessibility Resource Center (ARC), Hostos Academic Learning Center (HALC), ASAP, CUNY EDGE, Office of Alumni Relations, Student Government Association (SGA) and more were out and meeting with students, giving them information about all of the great and supportive resources available to them. We also heard from our excited and driven students, who shared why they enrolled at the College and what they hoped to accomplish during their time with us.
It was lovely to see new and familiar faces at Hostos.
The festivities were the perfect way to close out our Fall 2024 Welcome Days, which included information tables, resource fairs, and tours of different campus facilities. Although Welcome Days are behind us, all are always welcomed at Hostos. We wish the College community — in-person and online — the very best of luck this semester.
