The Office of Interim President Dr. Cocco De Filippis is pleased to announce Julissa Reynoso Pantaleón, Chief of Staff to First Lady Jill Biden, will be Eugenio María de Hostos Community College’s 51st Commencement Ceremony Keynote Speaker.
 
The College will celebrate its 2021 candidates in a digital ceremony streaming on the Hostos’ YouTube page at 2 p.m. on May 28 2021. Additionally, Interim President Cocco De Filippis will present an Associate of Humane Letters (H.L.A) to Congressman José E. Serrano for his exemplary years of service to Hostos and the Bronx during the digital ceremony.
 
In recognition of Hostos faculty, staff, students, and community leaders' extraordinary service, she will also present Presidential Medals to CFO and Administrative Superintendent Frank Varone; Middle States Commission on Higher Education Committee Co-Chairs Professors Nelson Nuñez-Rodriguez and Kate Wolfe; Community member Dr. Rafael Lantigua; and Hostos student Maya Joy Abdoussala.
 
Special Exemplary Student Service mentions and scholarship awards will go to former SGA President Muiz Agbaje and Former SGA Secretary Isabel Neira Sánchez. And no commencement exercise would be complete without the Valedictorian and the Salutatorian, who are Ishrat Zahan and Taisiia Smekalenkova, respectively.
 
Despite the challenges of the past year, Hostos is expected to call 1189 candidates for graduation from the fall/winter 2020 and spring 2021 semester.
