Hostos Community College is proud to announce that Professor Hector Soto of the Behavioral and Social Sciences Department has been selected as one of the 50 Most Influential People in the Bronx by the publication City & State.
As a respected educator at Hostos, Soto is a Professor of Law and Public Policy for the college. His career also includes more than 30 years of work as an activist, community organizer and civil rights lawyer.
Soto is extremely engaged with the community, and challenges Hostos students to share their opinion and voices on issues and topics that directly affect them and their future.
Recently, Professor Soto coordinated an interactive “Text, Talk, Vote” (TTV) event, ahead of the 2016 general election, to inform students of the importance of voting and engage them in the political process. He also serves as the Faculty Advisor to the student Law and Social Justice Club, one of the more active club’s in the college.
“Recognition has never been my objective,” stated Professor Soto. “Making positive change for social justice, and teaching others how to be agents of positive change, is and always will be my focus,” stated Professor Soto.
