CUNY Awards Public Safety Officers

On November 30, three members of the Hostos Public Safety Department were recognized for service above and beyond the call of duty at CUNY University’s Public Safety Medal Awards ceremony. The event was held at City College and was presided over by Andre Brown, the Executive Director of CUNY Public Safety.

Peace Officer Raul De Jesus received the University Public Safety Commendation Medal. Peace Officer Raymundo Valentin and Sergeant Curt Caesar received the University Public Safety Excellent Duty Medal. In addition, the entire Public Safety Department at Hostos was given the University Public Safety Unit Citation Award for its service during the pandemic.

Chief Arnaldo Bernabe, Director of Campus Police & Security Services, spoke to five Campus Peace Officer recruits who will join the department after graduating from the 15-week CUNY Public Safety Academy:  Molano, Garcia, Castillo, Caviglinao and Martinez.

“The Officers at Hostos Community College are truly involved in community policing and are very sensitive to the needs of our campus and our surrounding neighbors. Officers De Jesus, Valentin, and Sergeant Caesar’s demonstrate their commitment to community service and set an example for all those involved in public service. The Public Safety family and the College Community are very proud of their dedication and service.”
