Hurricane MarÍa has changed the landscape of Puerto Rico forever, and people are leaving the island by the thousands. The dynamics of this migration, as well as a look back at its history dating back to colonial times, was examined at Hostos November 16.

Titled, “Puerto Rican Migrations from Colonial Times to the Present: Pre and Post Hurricane María,” the event featured journalist, news anchor and producer Javier Gómez and centered on reviewing and analyzing the pattern of the Puerto Rican migration and its repercussions for the diaspora. The timely discussion also included Hostos Professor Ana López (Latin American and Carribean Studies); Myrna M. Rivera, Founder and Chief Executive Officer and Lead Investment Advisor of Consultiva; Hostos Professor Hector Soto (Behavioral and Social Sciences); Sonia Valentin, Producer and Host, Juntos en la Mañana, WAPA America TV, and others.
The panel was presented by the Hostos 50th Anniversary Committee, the Office of the President, the Division of Institutional Advancement, and the Office of Associate Dean for Community Relations Ana García Reyes in collaboration with BronxNet Television Studios.
