Out of hundreds of institutions nationwide, Hostos Community College has been named one of the six winners of the U.S. Department of Education’s (ED) inaugural Postsecondary Success Recognition Program (PSRP) award. This honor celebrates colleges that excel in serving underserved populations, fostering student success, and equipping graduates for economic mobility.

Yesterday, January 14, Shiang-Kwei Wang, Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, proudly accepted the award on behalf of Hostos at a special ceremony in

Washington, D.C., highlighting the College’s commitment to creating opportunities for its diverse community. She was joined by Miguel Cardona, U.S. ED Secretary; James Kvaal, Under Secretary of Education; and Nasser Paydar, Assistant Secretary for Postsecondary Education.

“As a community college in the South Bronx, our mission is to provide social mobility through education,” said President Daisy Cocco De Filippis. CUNY Chancellor Félix V. Matos Rodríguez, a former Hostos president, echoed this sentiment, calling the recognition “a well-deserved honor for a College that has transformed countless lives.”

Provost Wang added: “This recognition means so much to us. It celebrates our student body’s resilience and determination to succeed, highlights our faculty and staff who go above and beyond to support our students every step of the way, and reminds everyone at Hostos that your work truly matters.” Read more about the program here.
