November 28, 2023 marks GivingTuesday, the international day of giving, which is celebrated on all 25 CUNY campuses as CUNYTuesday. This year, driven by high demand for these two vital student resources, the Hostos Community College Foundation is requesting funds for the Food Pantry at Hostos and the Circle of 100 Emergency Scholarship Fund. Thanks to generous faculty, staff, and friends of the College, pledges so far total more than $52,000 so far — nearing 90% of the
$61,000 goal! Your support will help the College reach this target so that it can fulfill its mission: empowering every Hostos student. To make a gift,

This year, the Division of Institutional Advancement at Hostos is marking the occasion with a special event,
Nourishing Conversations: Chef Grace Ramírez Journey to Combat Food Insecurity. You can join the conversation in the Longwood Art Gallery @ Hostos at 1:00 p.m. Chef Grace will share about her humanitarian work with the World Central Kitchen to feed communities in times of crisis, as well as her current efforts to create healthier lunches for New York City Public School students. She and Fabián Wander, Director of the Hostos Health and Wellness Center, will also discuss how food insecurity affects the South Bronx and Hostos students, and how we can all help by supporting the Food Pantry at Hostos and emergency scholarship funds.
The Foundation and the College extend gratitude to all those who have given so far, with special thanks to Amazon and the New York Yankees Foundation for their generous contributions, and to Monica Morales of PIX11 News, and Chef Grace Ramírez for helping to highlight food insecurity in this community.
About the Hostos Food Pantry at Hostos
The Food Pantry at Hostos opened in 2013 to offer nutrition assistance for students who were struggling to afford basic necessities while they worked toward their degrees. The pantry receives generous annual support from the Carroll and Milton Petrie Foundation, the New York Yankees Foundation and New York City Council, however, with recent rising food costs and increased enrollment, the Food Pantry is struggling to keep shelves stocked. The Food Pantry is visited over 1,000 times a year, and it provides support for more than 4,000 individuals in the community through our students. In addition to shelf-stable goods, the Food Pantry manages fresh food giveaways and coordinates holiday food distributions.
