We are pleased to share the Hostos 52nd Commencement Ceremony’s Valedictorian Bouampoundi Brigitte Thiombiano has been selected as a 2022 Women’s Forum Education Fund Scholar.

Thiombiano is one of 20 women studying at college and universities in New York City selected to receive the prestigious award, which includes a $10,000 grant to help her further pursue her education. The recognition is granted to women over 35 who have faced challenges in their lives and had to take a break from college but returned and thrived in an academic setting. Per the Women’s Forum Education Fund Award website, “applicants must demonstrate noteworthy promise, resilience in the face of challenges, and a commitment to making a difference once their own career goals are achieved.”

Thiombiano, who is the Vice President for Student Affairs and Community Relations in the Hostos Student Government Association and a member of both the Hostos Student Leadership Academy’s Student Ambassador Program and Phi Theta Kappa International Honors society, is in great company. Former Hostos SLA students Aminata Coulibaly (2011), Liliete Lopez (2011), Sandra May Flowers (2018) and Salimata Seck (2018) were granted the award while pursuing their bachelor’s degrees.

“Bouampoundi Thiombiano is a woman of great vision and incredible determination. Her passion for making  a difference in the world that she lives in, works in and attends college in is a great gift, and it is a major reason why she was selected for the incredible recognition,” shared Jason Libfeld, Student Leadership Coordinator at Hostos.

We couldn’t be prouder!
