The Caimans women's volleyball and men's soccer teams start their fall 2016 seasons on Aug. 25 and Aug. 26, respectively, and both are coached by some relatively familiar faces ready to take their teams to the next level.
New men’s soccer coach Roy Charles hails from the island of St. Kitts and returns to the Caimans after coaching the team in 2007. While volleyball coach DeVernie Winston is new to the volleyball squad, he is not new to Hostos. Winston actually coached the women’s basketball team to its first CUNYAC Regional Tournament win last year in his first season in 2015.
The Lady Caimans volleyball team includes some tremendous athletes from the NYC PSAL & Charter School leagues, the team is excited to have its 2014 CUNY Tournament MVP Seyma Soylu back after she missed last season.

Winston is proud to report that some former Caiman stars have moved on to four-year colleges to continue playing volleyball, including, Marie McKenzie (SUNY Old Westbury), and Tenaya Hawkins (City College of New York).
The Lady Caimans also contributed to a very successful campaign within the athletic department to raise awareness for cancer research, raising $1,200 in 2015.
Coach Charles is looking to turn around the men’s soccer team. The St. Kitts native also coached that Caribbean Island’s Caribbean Cup Team, the U.S. Virgin Islands National Team, as well as the Seba United Professional Soccer Team in Jamaica. Charles also has a strong CUNY connection, as he coached Borough of Manhattan Community College’s women’s soccer team from 2012 to 2015.
