Esther Rodríguez-Chardavoyne
Senior Vice President of Administration and Finance
My career in finance has spanned both the private and non-for profit sectors. I have been able to build upon my experience to oversee the financial management of several educational institutions. Prior to arriving in the public education field, I worked for Price Waterhouse LLP. Since then I have spent the past twenty years in the non-for profit education industry. I first worked for the City University of New York as the Assistant Controller in charge of implementing an accounting and budget system. That experience then led me to a position in charge of consolidating all financial data, including seven separate payrolls, into one system (the Employee Information System) at the Department of Education (formerly known as the Board of Education). The centralized and unambiguous data provided by this new system allowed the accounting system to generate transactions and provided better control and oversight of the budget.
Over the past eight years I have held the position of Vice President of Administration & Finance at Hostos Community College. In response to the early unstable fiscal situation of the College and imposed city and state funding cuts, I worked with the President of Hostos and the other divisional vice presidents to formulate strategies to minimize the impact on teaching and learning by focusing cuts within administrative services. Through the establishment of annual balanced budgets, aggressive cost-cutting initiatives and the computerization of several business functions, Hostos has gained a reputation for fiscal responsibility within CUNY. Additionally, under my supervision, the massive overhaul of outdated technology within the College has made Hostos a leader in the CUNY system in the use of current and cutting-edge technology.
