This two-part, dual headlining concert celebrates some of the greatest music and performers from both islands - all in one night!
40 Years in Music
Humberto Ramírez, who recently celebrated his 40th year in music with a thrilling performance in Puerto Rico, is now bringing that celebration to New York City. The acclaimed trumpeter, bandleader, and artist will perform his most iconic Latin jazz compositions and songs joined by his vocalist Michelle “La Brava,” members of his band, and the Mambo Legends Orchestra.
A Tribute to La Lupe
In the second half, the Mambo Legends Orchestra pays tribute to the La Lupe. The 18-piece Latin Big Band will perform 13 of her most iconic songs. Musical Director and Arranger, José Madera, has meticulously arranged these classics, adding the 25-piece string section of the Bronx Arts Ensemble to create a rich, full sound – never before heard anywhere else. The powerhouse vocalists Michelle "La Brava” and Lena Burke, the scion of the famous Burke family from Cuba, will bring La Lupe's music to life with their incredibly passionate performances.
Hosted by Mr. Joe Conzo, Sr., the celebrated Latin music historian and author of “Mambo Diablo: My Journey with Tito Puente.” A New York native and Korean war veteran, Mr. Conzo, Sr. lectures at Jazz at Lincoln Center among many organizations and teaches a continuing education course on Latin music and Latin Jazz at Hostos Community College / CUNY.
