Hostos Community College was well-represented at the 2021 CUNY Research Scholars Program (CRSP) Symposium, held virtually on July 26, July 28, and August 2.
Thirty-two Hostos students, including members of CUNY Research Scholars Program (CRSP) and Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP) program fellows, delivered 19 research presentations. Moreover, eight Hostos students received recognition for their outstanding research and presentations:
- Olawale Oladapo and Serigne Mbacke Mbaye, mentored by Professor Biao Jiang, presented “Big Data Analytics on Social Media Regarding the COVID-19 Vaccine.”
- Boinzemwende Jarmila Roxane Ouango and Mariam Koanda, mentored by Professor Moise Koffi, presented “Analysis of Heat Dissipation by Natural Convection from a Flat Heated Plate Using Thermal Imaging.”
- Jackeline Figueroa and Carlos Silverio, mentored by Professor Norberto Michel Hernández Valdés-Portela, presented “A Preliminary Qualitative Analysis of the Factors Impacting Student’s Completion at Hostos Community College.”
- Onyinyechi Winner Obineche and Scarlet Martínez Cardoze, mentored by Professor Yoel Rodríguez, presented “In Silico Discovery of Neutralizing Agents Targeting SARS-CoV-2 Spike Glycoprotein.”
Mechanical engineering major Olawale Oladapo and civil engineering major Serigne Mbacke Mbaye also served as Hostos’ featured live speakers during this year’s symposium.
“A hearty congratulations to all students and research mentors engaged in undergraduate research at Hostos during 2020–2021,” said Yoel Rodríguez, Ph.D., Professor in the Physical Sciences Unit of Hostos’ Natural Sciences Department. “Despite the pandemic, this year’s research work has been remarkable and of the highest quality. We have become more innovative and creative addressing challenge and timely questions. Our gratitude to the Hostos and CUNY family for the support.”
