Who should attend the Immersion Program Workshops?
- CUNY students who require remediation in one or more of the academic subjects of mathematics or English.
- Students enrolled at Hostos Community College who are having trouble passing their remedial course in English or Math.
- Entering students who want to fulfill their basic skills requirements.
What are the advantages of attending an Immersion Program workshop?
- Students can fulfill their basic skills requirements in a stimulating, friendly and supportive environment during the short winter and summer modules.
- Immersion courses are free of charge.
- Incoming freshmen can get a head start on their education by completing any developmental requirements before the fall semester begins.
When are Immersion Program workshops offered?
The Immersion Program workshops are offered during Hostos's Winter Module (January Workshops) and Summer Module (June, July, and August Workshops).
What are Summer Workshops?
The Summer Immersion Program serves entering students, currently enrolled HCC students, and readmits. We offer three different summer sessions. Courses are offered at various times to accommodate day and evening schedules.
Session I is a three-week program of math, reading and writing workshops offered in June. These workshops are open to currently enrolled students and entering students (freshmen and transfers). English as a second language (ESL) workshops are offered as well.
Session II is a three-week program of math, reading and writing workshops offered in July. These workshops are open to currently enrolled students and entering students (freshmen and transfers).
Session III is a special two-week intensive program running during August for our entering students. During this session math, reading, writing workshops are offered.
What are Winter Workshops?
The Winter workshop is a three-week program of math, reading and writing workshops offered in college's winter module (January). These courses are open to currently enrolled students and entering students (freshmen and transfers).Courses are offered every day, Monday through Friday, at various times to accommodate day and evening schedules.
